The Coastal Town of Sidari...

Sidari is actually two small coastal villages connected by a long sweeping sandy beach. While retaining much of its original charm, Sidari has developed into one of Corfu's thriving holiday resorts. The village church, picturesque village square, broad sandy beach and striking rock formations all make this a resort with character. It is one of the oldest known settlements on Corfu. Archaeologists have found traces of a Neolithic community living here in about 7000BC.

Sidari's broad, sandy beach and shallow water make it popular with families but its most dramatic features are the stunning rock formations that rise out of the sea at the western end of the resort. The striated sandstone here is carved out by the pounding waves into sandy coves with caves and ledges. And few couples can resist the chance to swim through the Canal d'Amour where legend says they will be assured everlasting love.

The Route (total distance 25km)

From Arillas, head out on the road to Kavadades and then down to Velonades. Keep on the flat route along the main road to Sidari.

On the return journey from Sidari, head past Canal d'Amour and out on the road to Peroulades and Avliotes. Continue up the hill and down into Agios Stefanos where you can turn right down to the beach for refreshment if you desire. Climb straight out of Agios Stefanos and, after the hairpin bends turn right for a refreshing freewheel back into Arillas.
